Lopez Artist Advance
Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a fee? There is no fee to the artist for any portion of the program—the auditions, the artist development group, the workshop.

Will an actual hard-copy CD be manufactured? Yes.

Will Lopez Artist Advance own the rights to the material, or the CD? No, the rights to original material and to the CD will remain with the artist.

Is this a recording contract? No, this is a one-time recording opportunity.

If I get to do the recording, will I have to have enough material for a full length CD? Not necessarily. The focus will be on talent and its development, and on quality. If the recording is best served by a focus on fewer songs, then it will be shorter.

How many songs will be on the CD? This will vary depending. For instance, if an artist is chosen who will record original material, but they only have six really good songs, those songs will be focused on for an EP, or shorter album.

Can I audition as a solo and then with my band as well? Yes, we encourage artists to audition in different acts.

Who will judge the auditions? Ralf Illenberger, and Lenedra Carroll will judge. One additional judge may join Illenberger and Carroll.

How do I apply? Notify -__________ of your interest, by email. Give your name, and contact info, including an email address. She will email you an application.

How many songs will I (we) perform for the audition? Each act will perform two song. Artists with original material may be asked to perform up to 3 additional original songs. Artists performing cover songs may be asked to perform one additional song.

Will the judges give comments or ask questions? The judges will give feedback, but this will be intended to be helpful to the act, not critical, and certainly not mean. This is not American Idol. The judges may ask the artist(s) questions about their material, experience, etc.

Will the artist have to provide all the sound equipment? No, to facilitate the ease and the flow of the auditions, most of the equipment will be provided. This will be discussed separately with each act.
